The clash between the new and the old world is raging. Brutal traditions are facing the challenge of knowledge and education, and hierarchies are on the point of toppling, when the ideological, impassioned exchange student, Hamlet returns home from the University of Wittenberg to attend his father’s funeral in Kronborg.
Life goes on as usual at Kronborg – but not for Hamlet. Something inside him has changed. He is excited by new educational ideals and the idea of a modern, responsible human being. But in the castle of his childhood the ancient order prevails: an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. Can Crown Prince Hamlet break free of the bloody shackles of tradition and lead his kingdom into a new, more enlightened era? Or is he pre-doomed to fail in his ambitions of enlightenment?
